Seven special economic zones

The government will set up seven special economic zones in seven divisions and at least three of the SEZs will get into operation by this year, finance ministry officials said.

The main objective to develop the SEZs is to boost local as well as foreign investment, they said.

Fine slapped on three realtors in Sylhet

The Department of Environment yesterday fined three housing companies for filling up water bodies and cutting hills at Dakshin Surma, Fenchuganj Road and Tamabil Bypass.

A team led by Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, director (Monitoring and Enforcement) of the DoE, asked Ruposhi Bangla Housing at South Surma, Al-Baraka Housing on Tamabil Bypass and Royal City Housing at Lalmatia and Parairchak on Fenchuganj Road to stop their activities.

The country’s first eco-friendly resort will start operation in Sylhet in 2014.

Greenbeel, a unique venture in the tourism industry of Bangladesh, is being built on over 150 acres of land at Srimangal with the concept “living with nature”.
