Progress towards digitalisation in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday that the country made a good progress in its efforts towards building ‘Digital Bangladesh’ in the last three years as pledged in the ruling party’s election manifesto.

“We’ve achieved many successes to this end,” she said while inaugurating the multimedia classrooms and digital academic contents developed by teachers.

UK suspends student visa

The United Kingdom has temporarily stopped accepting student visa applications from Bangladesh, Nepal and North India due to unexpectedly high numbers of applications from these areas.

The suspension takes effect from today and will be reviewed in a month’s time.

Free education up to degree-level

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that her government will make education up to bachelor’s degree free of cost, reports bdnews24.com.

She said her government would raise funding for the education sector and appoint more teachers to government primary schools to improve the standard of education.

“I believe education should be made free up to degree level. We will make education free of cost up to degree level for all,” Hasina said while inaugurating the National Primary Education Week-2010 at Osmani Memorial Auditorium Thursday.
